I did that on my 69 mustang when I added an MSD 6A box and distributor.  Makes a big difference too.  I simply went to the ignition switch, by passed the resistor wire  out to the MSD box.   Was an easy way to double the voltage into the system.

That would not be an update. It would be returning to the fifties.

The starter turning drags down the system voltage. So a six volt coil
is used with two supply sources. When the starter is engaged the coil
gets full system voltage. Since it is a six volt coil it gets what for
it is full voltage. When the starter is released it is fed thru a
dropping resister\wire and still gets six volts; still full voltage.

Before that scheme it was difficult to get full spark during cranking.
