How to get rich: getpoor.com [Classic Mustang] manual steering

I'm gonna sound clueless here but my 65 convertible has manual
everything. For someone who grew up with power steering (even my 65 FB
had PS) should steering be THIS stiff? By this stiff I mean like I just
stalled the car with PS stiff. Hand over fist hauling on it to maneuver
at low speeds stiff. I'm wondering if the 42 year old steering mechanism
can be rebuilt and if maybe it's past due. I seem to recall at some
point in my life driving a manual steering setup and thinking that it
wasn't so bad, and not nearly as bad as driving a power steering car
while stalled, but of course i may be dreaming that up.

Also what's the best PS conversion out there? Not concerned with
concourse correctness, just best bang for the buck/time.
